Well, I have to say the weather hasn’t been on our side so far this year. Even the most enthusiastic walkers could be forgiven for staying at home. But it can’t last forever, and for those of you just waiting for a good reason to do more walking we might have found the perfect motivation.
There are lots of sponsored walks throughout the year, and they can be just what we need to get us back outside. One of the best is Walk Ten, run by Marie Curie Cancer Care at 19 stunning locations across the UK.
Walk Ten is a 10k twilight walk held during the height of summer, to promote and acknowledge the amazing work that Marie Curie nurses carry out on a daily basis. The events begin at 5.30pm, with walkers encouraged to enjoy a picnic accompanied by live entertainment following the walk.
The evening finishes at 10pm. 10pm is when the majority of Marie Curie nurses enter the homes of terminally ill patients across the country, beginning their nine hour night shifts.
One of the most popular events is held at Sandringham in Norfolk - this year on the 12th July. But don't worry if you can't get to Norfolk, their are plenty of other great locations.
You can find out more on the Marie Curie website.
So if you fancy a challenge, and want to help raise money for a really worthwhile cause, this could be the perfect motivation to start walking again and build up to walking a full 10K.
If you are organising or participating in a sponsored walk and want to promote it you can add it to the event planner on this website. Just get in touch with us. And of course don’t forget to record your training walks to see how long they are. You might be surprised how quickly you build up to that 10K.
