About Walk 4 Life
Natural England
Natural England’s Walking for Health (WfH) is a low cost and cost effective way of helping people in local areas to take control of their own health and lead more active lives by taking part in regular led health walks.
Inactivity and obesity are two of the greatest health problems facing society so health walks can have a real impact on spending on health care. We are encouraging frontline healthcare professionals, especially GPs and Practice Nurses, to recommend that their patients join a local health walk scheme to improve their physical and mental health.
Launched in 2000, WfH is already helping nearly 70,000 people to walk regularly in their local natural environment by joining one of our health walk schemes. We’ve teamed up with the Department of Health and are working towards enabling 130,000 people to walk regularly to benefit their health by March 2012.
What is a Walking for Health health walk?
- A free, led group walk usually lasting around 30 – 60 minutes.
- It’s led by walk leaders trained by Natural England.
- It takes place over easy terrain with a level surface and no barriers.
Walking for Health has nearly 600 health walk groups across England, meeting for regular short walks every week. Anyone can turn up and join in, and it's free and fun. Find your local health walk scheme at www.wfh.naturalengland.org.uk/walkfinder.
